Oktoberfest in September?

Have you ever wondered why the Oktoberfest in Pretoria is held in September? Here’s the story:

The original Oktoberfest in Germany began on 12 October 1810, celebrating the marriage of Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen. The people of Munich were invited to join the festivities on the fields where the couple wed – a tradition that continues in Munich every year.

The celebrations initially lasted five days, concluding with horse races. Eventually, it was decided to move the event to September to enjoy warmer weather. In keeping with this tradition, our original Oktoberfest in Pretoria is also held in September.

The Oktoberfest is an official fundraiser of the Deutsche Internationale Schule Pretoria.
